IEEE Photonics Technology Letters (PTL) will publish a Feature Section dedicated to report expanded versions of high- quality contributed and invited talks presented at the International Conference on Intelligent Computing and Wireless Optical Communications (ICWOC), held during May 15-17, 2026, in Nanjing, China. The core theme of ICWOC 2026 focuses on Optical Wireless Communication (OWC), a cutting-edge technology that employs optical waves as transmission carriers to deliver data for communication and various other application scenarios. Endowed with distinctive advantages—including abundant and license-exempt optical spectrum resources, high transmission capacity, strong resistance to electromagnetic interference, and inherent physical-layer security—OWC has been widely recognized as a pivotal enabling technology for the 6th Generation (6G) communication system.
OWC exhibits tremendous application potential across a diverse range of promising scenarios, such as free-space communication, indoor connectivity, underwater data transmission, vehicular communication, and satellite communication. However, the practical implementation and large-scale deployment of OWC systems are still confronted with numerous challenges, including but not limited to bandwidth constraints, link blockage, and unfavorable channel conditions. Against this backdrop, the topics covered in this Special Issue include (but are not restricted to) the following:
Wireless Communication and Networks, Optical Fiber Communication and Networks,Optical Wireless Communication and Networks,Integrated Sensing and Communication and Signal Processing,Space Communications, Navigation and Tracking,Fiber and Sensor Technologies,Microwave Photonics and THz Technology, Intelligent Photonics and Optical Computing
Both fundamental research and application-related contributions are encouraged.
The submission starts on July 10, 2026, and the deadline for submission of manuscripts is November 15, 2026.
Submissions should be made online at the IEEE Author Portal: https://ieee.atyponrex.com/journal/ptl-ieee with papers formatted compliant with the 4-page IEEE PTL standards. All submissions will be reviewed in accordance with the normal procedures of the Journal.
